What is an EMT connector? An EMT straight connector is used to secure and terminate Electrical Metallic Tubing to an electrical junction box or metal enclosure with its pre-installed zinc conduit locknut. Tri-head screws may be installed using a slotted/Phillips/Robertson head screwdriver. It's always easy to install a set screw connector. All you need to do is tighten a set-screw down on the conduit once it is slid in place to keep a firm connection to the conduit. EMT connectors size 1-1/4" to 4" will have double set-screws to secure the conduit. Each connector has a very smooth and rounded throat opening so that the cables or wires can be pulled through against damage. 

According to UL documents, set-screw connectors are designed to be used indoors only. You have to use rain-tight connectors in wet conditions instead. Never use a standard compression connector outdoors, either.
