There are mainly 5 types of conduit bodies, according to their different shapes. We use one or two letters to describe those shapes. The first letter describes the general body shape while the second letter indicates the direction that the wire exits.

LB: A LB conduit body is a L shaped body with one conduit hub at the back of the body. Electricians will use LB body to route the wires between the outside and inside the wall.

LL: A LL conduit body is a L shaped body with one conduit hub on the left side of the body. The wire will be routed to the left.

LR: A LR conduit body is a L shaped body with one conduit hub on the right side of the body. The wire will be routed to the right.

C: A C conduit body is a conduit shaped body with two conduit hubs at the same line. C conduit bodies do not alter the direction of the wire routing. They are used for inspection purpose in the raceway.

T: A T conduit body is a T shaped body with three conduit hubs. It allows Electricians to merge the wires from 2 locations or split the wires into 2 different locations.

We can also classify the conduit bodies as 3 types: threaded, set-screw and combination.

Threaded Type: A threaded conduit body is used with threaded conduits like threaded Rigid or IMC conduits.

Set-screw Type: A set-screw type conduit body is for use with unthreaded conduits like EMT tubings.

Combination Type: A combination type conduit body features thread and set-screw on each hub. It can connect different raceways like EMT and Rigid.
